China: Tree Planting Activities Held in Many Areas of China to Coincide with Tree Planting Day

On March 12 the four companies of the Panasonic Group in China held tree planting activities in many areas to coincide with National Tree Planting Day.
This year is the 44th since the Chinese government first designated this date in 1979. In 1981 the National People's Congress, the national legislature of China, started a nationwide tree-planting campaign in which March 12 is a national holiday to encourage greening of the land and protection of the environment through people taking part in tree planting.
The activities of the four companies in China were as follows.

■Fifteen employees of Panasonic Ecology Systems Guangdong Co., Ltd. (PESESGD) cooperated with the NPO The Association of Enterprises with Foreign Investment of Shunde to plant 100 fruit trees for the residents of the Shanqi Garden Home for the Aged in the Shunde District of Foshan, Guangdong Province. PESESGD planted the trees both to contribute to protecting the environment and with the hope that the elderly residents of the Home will look after the growth of the trees.

■Eighteen employees from Panasonic Appliances Air-Conditioning (Guangzhou) Co., Ltd. (PAPAGZ) and Panasonic Wanbao Appliances Compressor (Guangzhou) Co., Ltd. (PWAPCGZ), both located in the Wanbao Base, Zhongcun Town, Panyu District of Guangzhou City, Guangdong Province, planted 39 podocarpus trees in the green areas for common use in the factory site. Through this tree planting PAPAGZ and PWAPCGZ will increase activities to interact together.

■Thirty-eight employees of Panasonic Electronic Devices (Jiangmen) Co., Ltd. (PEDJM) joined in volunteer tree planting organized by the government of Jiangmen City (Guangdong Province) and the Jiangmen Volunteer Association in Da'aozhen Nansha Village (Xinhui District, Jiangmen). Together with local youth, they planted Chinese redbud trees.
