To be a company that UNLOCKs the potential of its people & organizations

No matter how excellent a business strategy may be, its execution relies on people. The results are greatly influenced by individual’s behavior and the organization culture. We would like to share our vision for realizing “an ideal society with affluence both in matter and mind,” including our reasons and ongoing efforts moving toward the future.

What is “ UNLOCK ” ?

We aim for a state in which each employee can UNLOCK their potential, as they continuously take challenges while maximizing their abilities and the strengths latent within them.

This figure shows the status when each employee can UNLOCK their potential. This can be achieved by two main elements. One is "Taking on bold challenges which exceed expectations." The other is "Maximizing skills and abilities.

To further accelerate our business activities aimed at realizing “an ideal society with affluence both in matter and mind,” we believe it is essential for each company member to achieve this UNLOCK state and permeate this ideal throughout the entire Group’s culture.

Why UNLOCK now?

In annual surveys on approximately 150,000 global employees, we have been focusing on questions related to the specific categories of “employee engagement” (the willingness for voluntary contribution) and “employee enablement” (assignment of the right people in the right place, as well as creation of a comfortable working environment). The favorable response rates to these questions have shown a continuous upward trend because of our initiatives, including work style reforms.

This figure shows the ongoing improvement in employees' motivation and their working environment. The favorable response rates for the Employee Opinion Survey in the Panasonic Group of global regions indicate a higher level when compared with other average Japanese companies in the fiscal years 2018 through 2025. The favorable response rates for employee engagement are 63%, 64%, 63%, 66%, 66%, 67%, 68%, and 68%. Regarding the rates for employee enablement in the same period, they are 57%, 58%, 59%, 63%, 64%, 65%, 66%, and 66%.

While these results indicate a higher level than when compared with other Japanese companies, there are still areas where we fall short in comparison to the top companies on the global level. Upon analyzing the trends in these favorable response rates, we found that the two out of nine key questions have been stagnant in recent years.

Two Challenges Revealed by our Employee Opinion Survey

This figure shows that sufficient motivation is not provided by the company or supervisors. In the favorable response rates to the questions on "employee engagement" in the fiscal year 2025, "Motivation with encouragement from the company or supervisors" has reached less than 50%, while other response rates are over 50% to questions such as "Willing to remain with the company," "Pride to workd for the company," "Motivation to exceed expectations," and "Will recommend the company as a good place to work.
This figure shows that we have significant barriers to take on challenges. In the favorable response rates to the questions on "employee enablement" in the fiscal year 2025, "No significant barriers to take on challenges" has reached less than 50%, while other response rates are over 50% to questions such as "Being provided with challenging & interesting work," "Good use of one’s skills and abilities," and "A productive workplace.

Making Challenges Visible to Achieve UNLOCK Status

Thus, we have established indicators to visualize our current situation and our future state to be. As the UNLOCK Indicators, we have set the favorable response rates to the two questions considered as challenging in the Employee Opinion Survey—“greater motivation with encouragement from the company or supervisors” and “no significant barriers to take on challenges.”

This figure shows UNLOCK indicators. The horizontal axis is "Skill Level," while the vertical axis is "Challenge Level." Employees with an UNLOCK mindset are at the highest position both in "Skill Level" and "Challenge Level." They succeed in reaching the two statuses. One of the statuses is "Taking on bold challenges which exceed expectations," which is linked to the question "Motivation with encouragement from the company or supervisors." The other is "Maximizing skills and abilities," which is linked to the question "No significant barriers to take on challenges.

In the current Japan region, employees who can assert that they can UNLOCK their potential is about 30% . This figure comes from the Employee Opinion Survey. These employees, with the motivation from the company or supervisor that boosts their willingness to take on challenges, are going beyond expectations and maximizing their potential, as there are no barriers in their work. Our target is to raise the figure up to 60%, and to achieve this, we will implement three initiatives.

UNLOCK as our Tradition

- The Founder’s idea of “the greatest gift I can offer” to employees -

“To be so immersed in work that time and fatigue are forgotten is a state of deep concentration and joy.” Our founder, Konosuke Matsushita talked of the greatest gift he can offer to employees is to create such an environment. The idea of UNLOCK, in which each individual maximizes their potential and takes bold challenges beyond expectation, comes from this thought of the founder.
