Turning Potential into Impact
Empowering Every Employee to UNLOCK Their Full Potential, Driving Stronger Execution and Business Growth.
This is the essence of Panasonic Group’s human capital management philosophy.
Our Vision
Panasonic Group Founder Konosuke Matsushita pursued management that emphasized nurturing and developing people so that they can thrive based on his philosophy of “develop people before making products.” At its foundation lies the philosophy that human beings are like rough diamonds—depending on how they are polished, they can shine in different ways. We carry forward this philosophy and practice human capital management to maximize the value of the human capital entrusted to us by society.
To fulfill our mission of achieving “an ideal society with affluence both in matter and mind,” we are committed to removing any obstacles that may hinder employees from UNLOCKing their full potential and to fostering an environment where they can thrive and perform at their best.
We aim to be a company where every individual can 'UNLOCK' their potential, unleash their strengths, and continue to grow.
Why UNLOCK now?
Over the years, our Group has worked to enhance employee motivation and improve the work environment through initiatives such as workstyle reform. These efforts have led to steady improvements in the positive response rates to survey questions related to ‘employee engagement’ and ‘employee enablement’ in the Employee Opinion Survey (EOS), which is conducted among approximately 150,000 group employees worldwide.
However, we faced a challenge: these improvements were not translating into stronger business performance. A closer analysis revealed that, among the survey items mentioned below, the positive response rates for only two questions, “Motivation from the company or supervisors to do more than is required” and “No significant barriers at work to doing job well,” had remained persistently low.
Based on these findings, we developed a hypothesis. The company was not doing enough to inspire employees to take on new challenges, and employees who were willing to challenge themselves were still encountering obstacles in their work environment. We concluded that these factors were the primary reasons why business results had not been fully realized.
While ease of working had improved, we concluded that what truly drives business results is job satisfaction and fulfillment. With this conviction, we launched our organization culture transformation initiative under the concept of UNLOCK.
UNLOCK Indicators
How, then, do we measure progress?
We have defined the percentage of employees who respond positively to both of the following survey questions as our UNLOCK Indicators. Together with the scores of five other related survey items, these indicators are monitored on an ongoing basis.
✓ Motivation from the company or supervisors to do more than is required
✓ No significant barriers at work to doing job well
As of FY 2026, the global UNLOCK Indicators score stands at 43%. We have set a target of increasing this score to 60% by FY 2029 and 70% by FY 2032.
Transformative Actions
We have defined our talent-related challenge as “Achieving a Highly Competitive and Resilient Talent Portfolio” and our organizational challenge as “Realizing an Organization Where Each Individual Can Unlock and Fully Demonstrate Their Potential.” By UNLOCKING the potential of every employee, we are enhancing the organization’s ability to execute its strategy and driving transformative actions aimed at achieving sustainable business growth.
To Achieve “An Ideal Society with Affluence
Both in Matter and Mind”
- Panasonic’s Growth Becomes Society’s Growth -
The challenges we face are likely common issues shared by many Japanese companies. We believe that “If Panasonic changes and grows, society will also change and grow.” With this firm belief, we are committed to achieving “an ideal society with affluence both in matter and mind.”
UNLOCK as our Tradition
- The Founder’s idea of “the greatest gift I can offer” to employees -
“To be so immersed in work that time and fatigue are forgotten is a state of deep concentration and joy.” Our founder, Konosuke Matsushita talked of the greatest gift he can offer to employees is to create such an environment. UNLOCK, our commitment to creating an environment where every individual can realize their full potential and take on bold challenges that exceed expectations, is rooted in this philosophy of the founder.
