Participatory World Café Workshops for Stakeholders
September 7th and 8th, 2023, at Panasonic Design Kyoto
September 11th, 2023, at Panasonic Design Kyoto (Hamamatsu-cho)

Purpose:

These workshops were so that we could learn the perspectives necessary for expanding empathy through repeated dialogue, aiming to empathize with people with various characteristics, and expand from our previous way of solve problems once we become aware of them. We then incorporated what we learned here into ideas that we apply broadly to future product development.

Content:

Staff taking part in these workshops moved between tables at which sat people, both from Panasonic and the general public, who had diverse characteristics such as those with disabilities, or with dementia, or who were sexual minorities, or had small children, and so on. The staff asked them about their everyday lives, such as what sort of disabilities or characteristics they have, the type of lifestyle and work they have, as well as the type of society they would like to see and their expectations of Panasonic. In addition, by explaining about a range of Panasonic products and ideas, and ideas we are currently studying, both sides deepened their understanding.

Insights:

We were able to gain a number of insights, such as how stakeholders wanted to do things on their own and having other people be overly solicitous was not actually that desirable, and how proposals that could be understood by not just the stakeholders but their families and others around them would not be used.
