Indonesia: Advancing Panasonic GREEN IMPACT Through Native Tree Species
In celebration of Environment Month 2025, Panasonic Gobel Indonesia (PGI) and Panasonic Manufacturing Indonesia (PMI) hosted a tree planting event on 20 June. During the event, 200 mahogany and flamboyant tree seedlings were planted in the green belt surrounding the PMI factory, bringing the cumulative total to 1,000 trees since the launch of the “Every Step Forward, a Seed of Hope” initiative in 2023. Once fully matured, these trees are estimated* to absorb approximately 22,000 kilograms of CO2 annually.
The event welcomed over 90 participants, including employees from PGI and PMI, representatives from Indonesia’s Ministry of Forestry, and members of the labor union. Their collective participation reflects a shared commitment to building a low-carbon and greener future.
The selected tree species—mahogany and flamboyant—are native shade trees recognized for their capacity to absorb carbon dioxide and provide ecological benefits. In addition to supporting climate action, these trees help enhance the local microclimate and promote biodiversity. Previous plantings included resilient native species such as sengon, soursop, ketapang kencana, salam, and tabebuya, all chosen for their compatibility with the local environment and contribution to ecosystem health.
This initiative is part of Panasonic’s broader commitment to sustainability, aligning with the company’s global environmental vision, Panasonic GREEN IMPACT. The program aims to achieve carbon-neutral operations by 2030 and to contribute to society-wide reductions in CO2 emissions by 2050 through innovation, operational improvements, and community engagement. The tree planting activity also forms a key component of the Panasonic Eco Relay program—a global, community-driven campaign that promotes environmental stewardship through hands-on activities such as tree planting, ecological education, and responsible waste management.
“Every tree we plant today is a promise for a better tomorrow. We believe that small actions, when done together, can create a big impact on our planet.”
— Masayuki Sasage, President Director of PGI & PMI
