Panasonic created the Panasonic Scholarship program to honor its 80th anniversary in 1998, based on the idea that people make society sustainable. In fiscal 2015, the Panasonic Scholarship Asia scholarship program took form.
Its predecessor, the Panasonic Scholarship, provided support for Asian students studying in Japan. However, the Panasonic Scholarship Asia, as a form of community-based support for training the next generation, offers economic support to students studying at universities throughout the Asia region. Group companies in Asia operate the program according to the conditions in each country, supporting local students who are struggling to advance their education because of economic circumstances. Through these more locally based activities, the program is increasing the number of scholarship recipients.
As of fiscal 2021, the program has supported 686 students since its founding in fiscal 2015, operating in nine countries and regions: Indonesia, India, Taiwan, Malaysia, the Philippines, Vietnam, Thailand, China, and Cambodia.
