The final event of the series, which first visited Thailand, India, Indonesia and Malaysia, came to its exciting conclusion in Japan.
As the best of best battled it out in the Panasonic SWING, there was a shocking turn of events as Thai golfers Poom Saksansin and Panuphol Pittayarat, previously ranked first and second, failed to make it through the heats. Jazz Janewattananond, another Thai golfer who came in third in the Maybank Championship, made it through the heat, scoring sixth at 7 under par.
Janewattananond needed to finish in the top four to overcome the 648.07-point lead by Saksansin, who was in the lead in the Panasonic SWING rankings after the Maybank Championship. A fresh face in the golfing world who topped the prize money ranking in this year’s Asian Tour and performed spectacularly in the Japan Tour, 23-year-old Janewattananond continued to perform well in the final. Taking fourth place with no ties at 13 under par, Janewattananond increased his point tally to 3020.93, overtaking Saksansin to become the second winner of the Panasonic SWING. Janewattananond was awarded US$70,000 and an invitation to a competition in the European Tour for 2019-2020.
